re: 100 years ago, today
Went to the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco last month, they had displays of old photos, articles and related info in celebration of the 1906 Earthquake. A lot of the destruction of buildings seen in the aftermath was caused by fire crews dynamiting them to control the fires.
On a side note, the exhibits at the museum have gone downhill IMO, but the unique photos, panoramas and items of the 1906 quake are worth the visit.
At the SF Giants Opener we gave tribute to 9 survivors of the quake with the oldest at 104.
