Good observation
It seems Trek imploded for a number of reasons. My understanding is that several years ago Paramount saw a changing of the executive guard, and with none of the new suits having a professional investment in Trek, the franchise plummeted in priority.
With some new creative blood now taking the reigns, I'd bet there's a good chance they'll want to "do it their way." Given Nemesis, that's probably a Good Thing.™
