(Sorry...)
Forgot to comment on the explosiveness of the development of human technological sapience. Henry seems to take it as reinforcing the view that it was a fluke, and that it narrows the window of civilization and thus reduces the odds of catching another civilization at just the right time. But here too, I think sociability is sufficient to explain the phenomenon as a quite ordinary one. Sociability is by its nature an exponential multiplier, and I don't find it surprising at all that human development has followed exponential growth curves. I see it as inevitable, in fact; and in fact if my theory holds any water, either tech/sapience would never arise, or it would arise and exhibit exponential growth. I don't see any intermediate state if sociability is a precondition.
