There are any number of examples where the government insulates the private sector from decisions that would not be made under a free market system. Federal flood insurance comes to mind. Farm subsidies. Maybe we need to examine the whole ball of wax?
In other forums I have been raked over the coals for supporting "socialized" nuclear power, mostly by people who would cheerfully socialize everything else under the sun, including health care and huge subsidies to the solar power industry.
The global warming solutions we are usually offered involve increased government control of how we drive cars, run our factories, generate energy, heat our homes, or live our lives. I don't see why suddenly government involvement in the nuclear power industry is a major issue in this context.
