I have a bro in law that is a lifelong, pull one lever, democrat. He frequently throws out the neo-con term and is a rabid Bush hater.

On the other hand he thinks we should nuke our enemies, hates homosexuals and would severely restrict if not ban abortion. He also believes that all your labels (rich, efete, etc.) apply but they are all Republicans (neo-cons). I, on the gripping hand disagree with him on all counts except the point about rich, efete, etc. They exist but their politics are secondary to their nature.

George Wallace Jr. mentioned in my OP probably is a liberal but he will always defend his father as being a liberal who only did what he did out of political expediency.

I consider myself a populist/conservative/rational anarchist and I never voted for his DH father and consider the Wallace name to be the worse thing that happened to Alabama since reconstruction
