I think soft drinks are the #1 contributor.
Everyone stops for a soda in their busy day, usually at a fast food place for lunch. I know I've used it as a pick-me-up for years.
(This is my fourth day without a soda). I read a couple of articles that brought some things into perspective for me.

During the last 20 years the total number of people with diabetes worldwide has risen from 30 million to 230 million, according to the International Diabetes Federation".
>Diabetes is now the fourth biggest cause of death worldwide.
>Diabetes raises the sufferer's risk of developing a cardiovascular disease by two to four times.
>Good control of blood glucose levels significantly reduces the diabetes patients' risk of developing complications. Managing hypertension and raised blood lipids is also crucial.
I'm pretty healthy for my age and have not had to worry much about weight gain BUT my cholesteral is sky high along with my tri-glycerides and I am trying to pin down a good regimen to lower it naturally. I've tried the prescription meds but can't tolerate them. Just ordered a case of pomegranate juice. Pretty damn tasty stuff. Just read some of the medical literature on it. High in calories, but that along with other phyto-estrogens and avoiding sugar and soda......we'll see.
Anyone else found a good alternative?
