I've had two: auditory and olfactory. And neither was drug-related.
The first was brought on by fatigue, I had the midwatch at the helm of a sailboat, it was a calm night and I suppose exhaustion and the hypnotic glow of the binnacle lamp finally got to me. I started to hear a choir, a capella men's voices singing something vaguely like a Gregorian chant, but not quite. The sound was unearthly, irresistable, and so loud I thought someone had gotten up and decided to wake up the crew by sticking a cassette in the stereo. It lasted about 30 seconds, and I can honestly say it was the most beautiful music I have ever heard, I would give anything to hear it again. Suddenly it stopped. I was wide awake and that beautiful memory faded in seconds until nothing remained except the verbal description of it.
Remind me sometime and I'll tell you about the other one.
