I have some old family slides I need to scan into the computer. I see a couple of not to expensive hp scanners at office depot, but am reluctant to get one because I don’t know how good the result might be. Has anyone here had experience with the any like this,

They claim it can scan 35mm slides, and negatives. I tried one of the home brew reflector setups I saw on line, but had terrible results. I did better just photographing them with a digital camera, and that was not at all acceptable.
I hate to spend a lot of money on it as I have only a few slides, and will probably never use it for that purpose again. The cost of taking them to some shop to have it done might be as much as a cheap scanner.
