My office has an HP scanner that can do slides and negatives. Its about 7 times the cost of that one because it has a multipaper feeder in it and can do both sides. However the slides/negatives portion is completely seperate from the multipaper feeder and is likely identical. It works pretty slick. There is a tray attached to the lid in which you slide your slides or negatives. While I haven't tried the negatives portion of it, I have used it for slides and I was pleased with the results. The scanner has to be able to do a much higher resolution since the areae being scanned is so much smaller. If HP has added the slides/transparancy tray to the bottom of the lid I would expect it can do the high res scans. 3600 X 7200 DPI sounds similar, but I couldn't be sure without comparing the two.
