You got a point. Before AC's (I don't know how anyone lived in Houston before AC's. Read Isaac’s Storm about the 1900 storm that destroyed Galveston. Men wore hot suits and women wore long dresses in the summer time) homes were built with higher ceilings and made for fresh air to circulate through.
The way we build homes now, they are heat traps in the summer. Putting black roofs on our attics is crazy. What we need is some sort of open light color shade over our roofs.
I have often wondered if the waste heat our AC’s generate contributes to some of the urban heat. Cars also generate heat energy. Then there is heat energy being generated in our attics.
The sad thing is we let all this heat energy goes to waste. There must be a way to turn this heat energy in to electricity.
I have dreamed about a device that takes hot air in and out puts electricity, cold air and water. Such a machine would have so many applications. It would create power, cool homes, and bring water to places that need it. Unfortunately, I can not think of a way to build such a device. Heat has a lot of energy, but it is harder to cool things off than heat them up.
And back to trees. I stand with the Liberals when it comes to trees and saving forest. I have a 9000 sq ft yard. It had about 9 trees when I moved in 7 years ago. It now has triple that. I love the shady yard. I would rather have the shade than the grass. Besides, the grass does not get fried in the shade like it does in the sun, so I can water less. And there is nothing like sitting under the shade on a hot summer day. I love trees.
