I read this when you posted it, but had no comment.
What year was it, do you remember?

That whole area north of Toronto has been pretty active off and on. I did some research on it when I lived in that area. I read your account and experienced something similiar here in Florida, literally right outside my door back in 1992. It almost matches your description.

I was getting ready to move into this place, and I had left my station wagon running outside while a painter came in with me to give me an estimate on painting the inside of the house. It was dusk, and there was a low cloud cover. When we came out, we looked up and saw a large orb barely a couple of hundred of feet up. It was poorly defined but about 60-75' across. It "glowed' from within. I noticed the street lights were very dim and I thought I could feel an electric field around me. It actually "lit up" the area. An odd glow.

Never thought much about it until the next morning when my car wouldn't start. There was static electricity in the car seat and on the door handle. As a matter of fact, my hand sparked when I closed the door to raise the hood, even buring it a little (I hollered ouch and even smelled my finger which smelled burnt). Upon raising the hood of the car, the battery was bulging on both sides. And it was dead. I had put it in seven months earlier, so this was unusual. Something had altered the car's electrical system. Still don't know what it was.

Could have been an electrical anomaly with the weather. The clouds WERE low, and it probably rained after. But it was part of a series of events around me at that time, including two other sightings.
