The Bro’s Grimm & Co sifted through a huge number of folk tales and printed them, after a considerable amount of ‘cleaning up’.

If most people who read them to their kids knew the original versions of a lot of Fairy tales, they’d faint.

In some versions of Little Red Riding Hood (of which there were many), the wolf wasn’t looking to have her for dinner. He had something a little more .... risque` ... in mind.

Unicorns weren’t seeking out the girls for companionship.

The Hansel and Gretel didn’t escape the Wicked Witch.

Of course the Grimm and Anderson tales were eventually preempted by Disney & Co, then turned into pure pablum.

Not to mention what was done to a number of Classic books, the Hunchback of Notre Dame one of the better recent examples. From beginning to end, movie barely resembles the original book.

Me, I prefer em in the original. Maybe offensive to some, but in the orginal you see a great deal of the culture each came from.
