So you agree that the Israeli attack on the Khyam UN post was not an accident. If this attack was deliberate the Israeli army should be utterly abject in its shame. If it was an “accidentâ€incompetence they should look to the UN peacekeepers to learn how real soldiers behave under pressure.
Hezbollah missiles are no excuse, two wrongs do not make a right.
One of the UN officers killed by the Israelis were Canadian. His name ws Major Paeta Hess-von Kruedener. You will find the details here: Please spend some time looking into his face and then tell me whether he deserved to die. The other officers were from China, Finland and Austria. They put their lives on the line to try and do some good. All of them were very brave men doing a dangerous job. The Israeli attack was barabaric and irresponsible. Repeated attempts were made by the UN forces on the ground to halt this attack, including calls by Lt.-Col. John Molloy (irish military) and Maj.-Gen. Alain Pellegrini (France) who is in charge of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).When radio contact was lost with the Khyam post Indian peacekeepers were sent to assess the situation. They were shelled by the Israeli army. Was this also by accident?
There has been a UN presence in this region since 1972, including many Irish troops (30,000 troops, 47 casualties). The UN has lost 262 people on this mission.
The men and women from around the world who staff this dangerous UN outpost should be given the highest possible honour. They show the world how real soldiers act unlike the Israeli military that has disgraced itself.
