Current Events » in reply to Qana attacked faked by Hezbollah?

if it helps you, then believe it

In the past few days I have repeatedly checked Haaretz, Jerusalem Post and Ynet, for anything more on this possibility. I found only one reference in Haaretz, about disputed accounts of timing, but that was not developed into a conspiracy theory. And not a peep from the other papers as far as I found.

Why do you think that might be?

This is the run down of possibilities as I see it:

(1) The whole thing is a lie and a set up as you say. - That's possible since it wouldn't be beyond those guys to try and pull that off. They are the most worthless liars when it suits them. However, in this case I reject that as extremely unlikely.

(2) Israel deliberately bombed civilians. Once again, extremely unlikely, since Israel does try to avoid specifically targetting civilians. However it seems like they don't give a crap about 'collateral damage' , which leads me to the 3rd and most likely possibility:

(3) There were rocket launchers around (or even in) that apartment block, and they were going to be taken out, civilians or no civilians. That seems the most obvious and likely scenario.

Michelle Malkin's point is fair though, that the victims are all children and women, so where were the men? - maybe outside firing the rockets. So, these might be the families of Hezbollah - who don't wear uniforms, in contravention to the rules of war. And who also cheer every civilian killed in Israel.

So, all of option (3) makes the whole thing at the very 'best' a terrible necessity, maybe or maybe not a war crime - but it has nothing to do with your conspiracy theory.

As Haaretz puts it:

The Olmert-Peretz plan was to shell and demolish south Lebanon and south Beirut until the Lebanese public demanded that its government vomit Hezbollah out from its midst. It appears that like a number of other Israeli leaders, they did not understand how much killing, poverty and distress people are willing to take, as long as their honor is not harmed, as long as they are not humiliated. And indeed, instead of demanding that Hezbollah be dismantled, the people of Lebanon want revenge, and they want it now. That is their response to the killing of 750 civilians and the destruction of thousands of homes, bridges, roads, villages and towns, putting Lebanon 20 years in the past.

Now, after the tragic events in Qana, which killed some 60 civilians, even Israel's greatest ally has changed direction and says it wants a speedy cease-fire. Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora has declared that Hezbollah's victory is the victory of the entire Lebanese people and that if Israel remains in south Lebanon, he will turn the Lebanese army against it. Siniora even spoke about a cease-fire without any agreement.

Other Lebanese, too - including some who are firm opponents of Hezbollah, such as Walid Jumblatt and Amin Gemayel - have also condemned Israel. Based on what has happened in the field, nothing remains of the grandiose goals of the beginning of the war.

Soon we will start to long for the excellent agreement offered by the G-8 at the beginning of the war. Today, it, too, is unattainable.

Olmert and Peretz are immature careerist hacks. I wonder how Dayan or even Sharon would have handled this situation.
