Hezbollah, in only the most recent incident of this kind, crossed into Israel, attacked a group of Israeli troops with explosives and anti-tank missiles. They kidnapped two soldiers, killing at least three others. That last part doesn't hit the papers so much. During this attack, the Israelis never got a shot off.

When Israeli troops then pursued them back across the border in a tank, it was blown up by a mine or IED, and the Israelis got into a heavy firefight trying to recover the bodies. Some sources say they were less than successful, and Hezbollah had a good time with the corpses.

The term "non-proportional response" contains the word "response." There's a reason for that.

Only one side in this war has declared, in writing and in public, that their objective is the absolute annihilation of the other side, man, woman and child.
