What kind of telescope?

Hello,
In 1995, I bought those two devices: a telescope and binoculars.
The telescope was a disaster: no motor, a viewfinder without any enlarged object and parallel to the tube.
Took forever to assemble. I sold it.

The binoculars are still amazing: 20 x 80 (but they're heavy without tripod and each time someone else looks through them the whole setup changes); I still have them and had them repaired (badly aligned maybe because of bumpings).

Then in 1999, I bought the ETX 90.
Compact, a perpendicular viewfinder with a lens, a motor, a computer (autostar) a very good miror, a wide choice of eyepieces, easy to transport and also possibility to use it in a equatorial mount. A huge improvement.

But now, 7 years later, the viewfinder bracket is no more glued to the tube (barely attached). I have problems finding small objects.
The autostar doesn't work anymore, so I use the equatorial mount (only one motor) but to get the most out of observations, you need to know the sky very very well!
The main eyepiece is scratched.
I have never been further than the south of France with it (and the cumbersome but necessary tripod).

It's time to take another step, but is it?

I'm considering buying a refractor....

A bigger reflector would need to be regularly collimated (ouch!!).
A refractor is a successive set of lenses...Better for planetary sightings, no need to collimate BUT it would take more room in the car! (Well, I've never taken the ETX 90 in a plane anyway).
The ETX 70 can be carried in a backpack (by bike, thus) but what it shows is not much more than my binos.
There are pros and cons and I live in a polluted area.
