I don't think the Israelis are attempting to cleanse anything

They mostly just get mad and get revenge on a very small scale. When their citizens are murdered the majority of their public wants something DONE ABOUT IT. Governments that do not supply the appearance of swift and strong response, ultimately fail tests of confidence and are replaced.

All of this happens pretty much involuntarily given the way democracies work, and the way humans react to a group of others killing members of our tribe. And some Palestinians know exactly how to pour on the gasoline to get the most effect.

No, I don't give Israel a pass for all the innocents that they kill. But be serious: nobody is stupid enough to think that ethnic cleansing is even possible in Israel and Palestine. The Israelis aren't that stupid, either.

They are however, stupid enough to continue policies that keep the conflict going forever.
