Interesting question........

But I haven't figured out the distinction between state sponsored terrorism and war by proxy? If you see one, kindly explain it to me.

One of the most interesting features of the UNITA conflict was the marvelous specter of the US supplying funds to terrorists trying to destroy Angola's infrastructure, which was being defended by Cuban mercenary troops. The prime asset being the oil refinery which was owned by Gulf Oil. Sounds like a movie plot: American corporate interests protected by communist Cuban troops against American government funded thugs trying to blow up American owned refinery.

On second thought, probably wouldn't make a good movie. The American public probably wouldn't believe Republican administrations would do such a thing, right?
