Planets, or whatever you wan't to call these gravitationally shaped piles of matter, are already scientifically defined. A body's mass, radius, composition, thermal structure, etc, define them "scientifically". All this other classification is just stamp collecting. An entry level system for school children to begin to understand the solar system.

There are fundamental physical concepts in this universe, but the definition of a planet isn't one of them. The IAU is just arbitrarily redefining an already arbitrary concept that stems directly from early mythologies.

So just relax and put down that pitchfork and torch ya friggin flamer...
