I guess this is part of what the Al Gore movie was about. And the point of the argument that is unassailable is sort of a Pascal's Wager approach: as a people we should embrace a committment to protect the environment in our own best interests. If protecting the environment effects no change, at least we didn't make the situation worse; if it does make a change we have protected our planet and made it a better place for our grandchildren.

No matter how you look at it, this is a win/win situation. It is long past time to start thinking green, but it certainly is not too late.
