Somehow it always seems beacon of hope that Mankind regards itself as so important. These encounters always seem a bit like the John Wayne version of being visited by ignorant foreigners of whatever type.

John is always condescending, as if they are somehow stupid.

Sort of like I am when I encounter an Asian who speaks poor English. There is a little part of me that starts thinking they are stupid, because I have to simplify my English so as to be mutually understood.

They probably speak 4 or 5 languages, have survived in at least 2 cultures, can live in a place where they don't speak the language, and happy in menial occupations, AND I CAN START TO BELIEVE THEY ARE STUPID.

I think it's a tendency of Man, and that if someone from an alien planet lands here they will have very little regard for us. We're too different from them.
