The problems with black and white thinking are legion. One of them is that any disagreement is regarded as rejection. Another is that there are only two options ever visible, a win and a loss.

Calling ones disagreement with ones government "self-hate". I would hate myself were I one who could turn a blind eye to the damage to everyone my country is perpetrating. And I love America, hate the current regime and it's policies. In my time it was "America - Love it or leave it".

However, it's impossible to reason with people who REALLY, REALLY can't see anything except black and white, either-or. They truly do see the world that way, which leads to the mess they have gotten the US into. They would pass lie detector tests on the matter.

For most of us, it's a childhood and adolescent attitude which we outgrow. And, many don't, as we've seen.
