Then again, maybe it doesn't mean anything.
Maybe its just tribal superstition and Bronze Age poetry with no physical significance whatsoever, no matter how you translate or interpret it.
It tells us a great deal about the people who wrote it, and it may even tell us a great deal about ourselves, but it doesn't tell us anything about the world we live in.
