And science isn't supposed to understand anything. That is the claim of religion, which has all the answers.

So "earth" is the Higgs field, and the "void" is the Higgs without energy. What steaming magnificent horseshit! None of us had even heard of Higgs until last year, and no one reading this has the vaguest clue what a Higgs field is. It may yet turn out that there is no such thing as a Higgs field. And yet you see clear evidence of it in the Bible? Listen to yourself, man. You're desperate to find a universe where you are just not an accident, a universe where you really mean something.

Get it through your head, the Universe does not care whether you live or die, it isn't here to fulfull your expectations, or provide you comfort and reassurance, or give meaning to your life, or give you a reason to exist. You're a child seeing shapes, dragons and castles, in the clouds, and congratulating yourself on how they prove what you knew all along.

The universe is not a conspiracy theory. It doesn't have to mean anything.

I'm sorry if I'm harsh or even insulting, Johannes, I don't want to hurt you or anyone else. But this kind of thinking leads nowhere, and when you finally wake up and realize you have been systematically lied to, and that you have been fooling yourself as well, you're going to be very angry and want to take it out on someone, someone like me.

So if you want to know why I'm so hostile to the religionist point of view, its because it insults not only the Cosmos, but human dignity itself. To the religious mind, the glory and beauty of nature is perverted into some cheap commercial transaction, a shabby deal with the Manager, do this and don't do that and you will be punished, or rewarded. God as Boss, as Daddy, as the ultimate high school principal, passing out diplomas and spankings, gold stars and hall passes.

Like I said, tribal superstition, Bronze Age Myths and Medieval nonsense.
