"No formal offers have been made by Nato states in response to requests by commanders in Afghanistan for 2,500 extra troops, Nato says. Members are meeting in Belgium amid pressure from the International Security Assistance Force, which is fighting in southern Afghanistan."
Lessee. This is a Bush war, NATO helping. And Bush has ALWAYS said the commanders in the field will get whatever they ask for, that troop levels are driven by need not politics.
And even if this weren't a Bush war completely, Bush promised whatever was necessary to do the job in Afghanistan, and the US is a member of NATO. And neither NATO nor the US is getting the job done in Afghanistan.
So, it might not be the first time ol' Bush hasn't been exactly candid.

Now what? "Nato fails on Afghan troops plea"
