Side note on old air conditioners
There are excellent (legal!) substitutes for R-12 for anyone with an older vehicle whose AC need recharging, like my trusty 95 Toyota Previa. I originally got some from a place called Auto Refrigerants, I had to buy an adaptor hose (about $25?) but the process was easy, two $10 cans got my AC pumping out icy air - this was 3 years ago, a third can last year and it's still going strong. Supposedly the stuff makes colder air than freon, requires less power to compress, and lubricates seals. The latter seems true as I didn't have to add any all this summer.
