"Transcendent" by Stephen Baxter
I'm about halfway through... fairly good book so far.
An interesting perspective popped up early in the novel: the idea that 500,000 years in the future mankind will have so thoroughly colonized the galaxy that space will be our natural environment. We will have absolute control of our genetic traits, and developed biological adaptations to handle radiation, vacuum, zero-gravity, and telecommunications.
Does anyone here think it is possible to control genetics that precisely?
