Do you know why Hollywood became enamored with the Western genre?
It's because of the availability of the Alabama Hills, between Lone Pine, California, and Whitney Portal. The hills are scenic, it's a large area and close to Los Angeles.
The roads in them are named "Directors Drive" and "Producer's Row", etc. You can see the passes where the boys cut 'em off, the bluffs where the bad guys hid, everything. It's a fascinating area.
There's a great museum, privately owned and funded, which shows a Western movie at night and the restaurants have the usual autographed photos one would expect.
