Who knows what. I might solve it if I could hold it and look at it, as I did today with my sister's laptop.
She spent an hour on the phone trying to explain the problem and I fixed it in 5 minutes when she brought it over. It was a glitch caused by the infernal MS 8.
Your humorous segment on the geek squads reminds me of my brother in-law who would visit us in Atlanta. When we would go somewhere and spend an hour or so getting there on the intricacies of the Atlanta freeway system, he would swear that I was lost and just kept driving around until I found our destination. He really believed that. Why? Because he doubted his own ability to ever find his way around in a city of that size and refused to believe that I could.
You problem would drive me nuts. I am not sure I could fix it. If I couldn't, I would have a new machine by the end of the week. I would have no choice, my mental health is tied to the health of my various computers. Call it ocd or whatever, it is a fact that I have to deal with.
