Fantastic.

What a hoot!

Remember seeing the Blue Angels in 1953, at a Boy Scout Jamboree at Irvine Ranch, California, just before they developed it. In an era of mostly piston planes, those jets were awesome. (Richard Nixon, VP, addressed us the next day.)

I've had the sense that if those SOBs wanted me they had me - over you and gone so damned fast you feel lucky to be alive even if they're on your side. They never failed to raise my pulse rate.

The excitement. A very good friend of mine was wounded, his position was under attack, the fast movers called in. He describes the smoke being popped, and swearing to God that the pilots had messed up. The planes dropped and went right overhead, the bombs headed right at him. He said he had time to curse the entire Air Force and all their mothers, about 1 second, and then the retarding mechanisms opened.

I thought it was bad enough without that!
