To me this was an amazing example of the power of forgiveness. Forgiveness not in the sense of "oh, that's ok, I forgive you, just don't do it again" but rather forgiveness in casting away the power that an evil act has on you. Nothing can bring the children back, nothing can be done to the killer, but to live a life hating and grieving is not going to do anyone any good. I am not religious, but I think that being unable to forgive in a situation like this means that evil has won. Whether you base your forgiveness on "it is God's will" or "shit happens - life goes on" or whatever works for you, is irrelevant to me, as long as you can reject the power of the evil act on your life.
