Nuclear test looking less like a real nuclear test?
Drudge has several headlines up from various sources doubting that a real nuclear test went off.
Among them was this one:
U.S. officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that seismic readings show that the conventional high explosives used to create a chain reaction in a plutonium-based device went off, but that the blast's readings were shy of a typical nuclear detonation.
If this is true (not much of a source so far), the actual amount of conventional explosive required to detonate a nuclear bomb seems to me to be nowhere close to the amount needed to create a seismic shock, so either there was at least some fission, or North Korea actually collected a huge heap of conventional explosives to fake everyone out.
