Look how long...
it takes them to get anything done! there's a team of folks working on the Mars rovers. It takes them forever to get stuff done.
Our robots just aren't -that- good yet. It's going to take lot's of money and effort to make them -that- good. Money that may be better spent on enabling people to be there to deal with the unusual. Something that robots are really bad at.
Don't get me wrong...we're doing some amazing things with robotics. But to equate that with roboticism as the Deus ex machina solution to every space problem is not reasonable.
Man & his tools. That's how we've conquered every frontier so far. Why should space be any different?
