Re: Avoiding glaciation
During my oh-too-brief time in Victoria, I spent a fine day in the Provincial Museum of British Columbia. Their Ice Age exhibit included a map which indicated (among other things) that the Juan de Fuca strait was dry land during the last glacial maximum, and that the shoreline of Vancouver Island was some tens of kilometres west of its present location. I immediately thought of migration routes south from Beringia.
