How many people can a 500-ton yield nuke kill?

Darn it!...I'm going to post an editorial on this subject and on
the hypocritical 'surprise' expressed by nations [like France, South Korea, etc.] on this event...and the foolish smugness and lack of concern by
the average man on the street regarding this threat.

EDITORIAL BLOG:

So French 'experts' claim the PRNK nuke test was fizzle at only
a yield of 500 tons?
Assuming they are correct, how many people will that kill in downtown
San Francisco, Paris or Manhattan when the streets are crowded with people?
OK! That was a cheap shot I confess stated as rethorical question.
Of course, in five years, or 10 years, if you haven't ended up as radioactive dust, you will be opining on the fact here at HZ that the PRNK will have plutonium nukes that are not only reliable enough to deliver yields anywhere from a tactical 4KT to an urban-busting 20 KT; and maybe
some tritium-boosted devices with yields upto 50-100KT, but that they maybe in possession of Pacific Ocean spanning missiles like the
[yet to be publicized] Taepodong-3; or worse, in possession of nuclear
tipped stealth cruise-missiles that could bypass Mr. Bush's missile defence system.
Stealth cruise missiles?....They're coming soon to your unfriendly
neighborhood arsenals. Remember that stealth fighter shot down over Yugoslavia years ago?...You ever wonder what happened to the wreckage and the technology that went with it?...Why Russian and or Chinese engineers got hold of the materials and technology!....
I guess some still cling to the quaint notion that Russia and China wouldn't offer the North Koreans such technology...Hmmmmm....There are a lot of
"ostriches" among us nowadays.

As for the UN's, South Korea's, EU's 'surprise' that the test actually took
place. Why should they be surprised? KIm Jong [mentally] IL had been saying for some time that a nuclear test was coming.
What is that mass-murdering tyrant supposed to do to make you a little worried, write his own version of "Mein Kampf"?
And now the UN...
I'm glad that they decided to do something....
That something, sanctions, like sanctions against a certain fellow named Mussolini, will do diddly to stop this latest brutal uncaring murderous madman.
But now we are faced with facts few want to face....One of them is is
that North Korea has now joined the Nuclear Club as its 8'th member.
Iran must be watching all of this minimal response and reaction
by the world's nations with keen interest, because by the end of 2007,
its 4500 high-speed centrifuges [3000 of which are to go into service before the end of this year] will, if engineering setbacks are avoided, have extracted from10,000 kilograms of ordinary uranium 60 kilograms worth of 90 percent U-235 weapon's grade material.
And 60 kilograms is about the estimated weight of the nuclear material that was in the Horoshima bomb.
