Doing the Renaissance Faire

Still kind of fun. When my daughter was working there, before she could drive, I spent an entire season down there, every weekend. Too far to drop her off and come back. A lot of things I burned out on back then, but it was also cool to be able to take the time to see everything. Spent two hours watching the troll once.

This time we were going to try out Judy's new Jazzy Chair 600, but we chickened out when we saw the terrain out there, and I pushed her in the standard chair instead. Good thing, too. Some deep dirt by the jousting arena.

One thing I always look forward to is the Steak on a Stake, but they changed the dang marinade to some garlic thing. Before, it was a teriyaki blend that had customers begging them to bottle the stuff. My wife said the new stuff tasted like Lysol. I thought it was okay, but a disappointment.

Asked the cook later, politely and with no hint of disapproval, if the marinade was different this year.

He lit off about how the guy who did the teriyaki wasn't here this year, would be back next year, that meat shouldn't taste like CANDY, and that they didn't have teriyaki during the RenFaire times!

Oookay. I resisted pointing out that the number of anachronisms at a typical RenFaire approached infinity, including him grilling on a gas range, but what the heck. I suspected that he wasn't lighting off on me as such, but it was late in the day, and I'd bet a lot of people had preceded me with questions about the sauce, and maybe some not so polite.
