What bothers me about this story, other than it will not go away, is the almost total silence about it from the mainstream media. Only a few second-hand reports, mostly from very questionable sources, seem to have surfaced, and the rumors are flying. They could easily be put to rest by simply letting the press into the site. Lots of press. I don't trust one embedded reporter from Fox or the crap from either end of the blogosphere.
Blowing up ammo dumps is no big deal, the VC were masters at it, and military engineers usually site and build them so little collateral damage or casualties occur, other than the loss of the materials stored there. Indeed, that is why munitions are placed in dumps, to isolate and limit potential damage. Dumps are also usually dispersed so that even the inevitable loss of several (after all, they are very high-value targets) will not cripple operational capability. At least, this is standard military doctrine and procedure, whether it was followed here or not is another matter.
By itself, this action would not be a particularly sensitive one from a military or propaganda point of view, so the delay in getting to the bottom of this story, or even of even going into it at all, is very disturbing.
