If everybody started getting upset about being on the short end of somebody else's celebration, we'd have no end of trouble. Germans would get upset when we celebrate Armistice Day, the British would take umbrage at our Independence Day, we'd take umbrage when Vietnam celebrates the end of that war, and no doubt North Korea celebrates the inconclusive armistice as if it were a victory, Cuba celebrates throwing out the capitalist imperialist lackey running dogs, and on and on and on. France wouldn't get one day of peace the whole year getting pissed off at all the people who can celebrate a victory over France.
