Sorry, live by the sword, die by the sword.
Republicans have been pilloried, flayed, and even hounded out of office for misspeaking. How do you spell "potato?"
It's become excruciatingly obvious that the Democrats in 2004 tried to shove an immature, bad-tempered, gormless idiot into the White House, somebody who by actual objective standards, is no smarter than Bush, and politically less astute. Even many Democrats think we dodged a bullet, and Kerry, as recently as a year ago, was the only person Bush beat in a theoretical poll for president.
The man, who made his career by marrying into wealth, had the nerve to stand in front of college students and give career advice.
Had any Republican made the same statement he did, mistake or not, no explanation would have sufficed, no apology would have made a difference. It would have been the top story in all the papers for weeks, and the Democrats would have made it the issue of the month. "Macaca" anyone?
Only Kerry's apology ever made the front page of the Washington Post, and suddenly it's all "let's move on" from the Democrats again.

Incidentally, on John Kerry? Cry me a frigging river.
