..please define "botched up so badly".
All I see are foreign sponsored Sunni insurgents causing problems in an infant constitutional democracy so they can tap an oil spigot.
More troops wouldn't stop concealed explosive attacks and only increase the casualties. This isn't a 'war'. There is no 'war' their has only been guerrila style attacks, kidnappings, and
Waging war like 1945, would quickly create a death toll around a million Iraqis - and still this wouldn't dissuade foreign sponsored insurgents.
Dividing the nation into three parts might've worked, but more likely the foreign sponsors would be unhappy without all the oil fields in their section and would still fund the insurgency to conquer their Shiite neighbors.
Blaming Bush is asinine unless one can define exactly how he botched up so badly. Blaming the bank manager for a string of robberies is all that amounts to. I prefer to put the blame where it belongs - with the bank robbers and their ring leaders.
