Three recruiters are caught lying on tape.

By now, they either were lying and have been removed from their posts, or have been reassigned to lie to recruits somewhere else. (One hopes, the former.) The sample was 10. That's almost a third, but it's a very small sample. How would it stack up over a broader area?

Recruiters who are lying and helping people falsify their recruitment forms didn't have their arms twisted by the wired applicants to do this. They weren't offered bribes by ABC. They did it themselves. They should be busted down beyond private to mascot.

If the story had been about a business fraud, though some people might have wondered about the sophistication and intelligence of the marks, generally people look at the marks as victims of fraud and the liars as criminals. Any recruits who signed up for the military based on false information were guilty only of expecting a soldier to tell them the truth, which might make them naive but doesn't make them stupid.

Another observation: Any soldiers recruited under false pretenses who serve and return will be the worst possible commercial for the volunteer military. They will tell everyone who will listen that the military lies to recruits. Trust will be destroyed. Those recruiters think they're having a hard time meeting their quotas now?? If this practice is widespread, they ain't seen nothin' yet.

A little background on Sue: her son Seth was indeed killed in Iraq. The rest, including her rude behavior that resulted in no one being killed, follows from that event. Her anger doesn't disqualify her from speaking to this issue or taint her speech in any way. If the objection is that she isn't neutral, well, duh. She said as much in the short interview in the original article.
