Nah... Don't be so pessimistic.
At least we don't force our women to wear burkas (Yet).
We will survive. I think our only salvation from stupidity and evil (and to a limited degree salvation from special interest) will be term limits.

We need a term limits constitutional amendment (but it has to come from the States--Congress would never pass it on it's own).
