Rumsfeld wanted to go for sometime now.
Rumsfeld is not a kid anymore. The daily grind would wear anyone his age down, especially when you have the media hounding you every day by phone, e-mail and when holding press conferences.
This gives him an opportunity to split and enjoy some distance from the wolves.
A toast - to the man whose plans ousted the quarter-century Saddam regime in a week!
