Preaching what the terrorists want to hear is still preaching what they want to hear.
Bush was over confident. We had just beaten the Iraqi army far worse and easier than anyone predicted. That's a situation that breeds over confidence. That wasn't his major error. His failure to plan for the "peace" to assure stability in a power vacuum was.
The US had to allow the Mahdi Army to gain strength to supply some semblance of stability in Baghdad when we could provide little. They gained so much power it became a problem to disarm them both strategically and politically. Out of such idiocy we lost a potentially strong ally in the Shiites and allowed our enemy Iran to gain much influence. Further errors made sure that our obvious opponants the Sunni's were even more probelmatic than expected. Removing someone who can't admit those errors is the first step to finding someone who can remedy them and no reason to be defeatist unless you want the terrorists to win.
We won the war with the iraqi army. The war with the terrorists is at a standstill except in the court of public opinion where defeatists like Bowser are leading us to a loss. We can not win that war if current trends continue, we might even start loosing in the field. Something has to change and someone has to be held accountable for the failure to date. Differences of opinion must be heard and debated. New ideas must be tried and discarded quickly if they don't work, not treated as dogma after years of failure.
