It's called negotiating a truce.

Bush senior preserved French & German interests in 1991. To make the insurgency in Iraq go away, means doling out or carving up the Iraq fields and slicing the pie to Saddam's old business partners. Logically, you bring back the same folks who sold out to Europe before to sell out to Europe again. If the French-held Iraqi fields were worth 650 billion in 2001 - they are worth almost 2 trillion today.

The negotiating is already underway

You promise them not to push them on the Sudan genocide and barter for how many years free run you will give them in other 3rd world hellholes.

Then most, if not all, will be "forgiven" by these nations, who will rein in their proxies, and we will all read about the 'miraculous' recovery of Iraq now that Rumsfeld is gone and Bush has 'changed direction'. They may even let us come back into Chad if we give them a big enough slice of Iraq again.

Then we can all be happy exploiters and the left will return to their delusional world where Bush is the bad guy.

No one gives a damn about democracy. There wasn't a leftist born who gives a fig about freedom of people around the world.

The Democrats merely had to pander to the lowest part of human nature - the selfish part, the part that says 1 American is worth 5000 Iraqis- maybe 50,000, and 2800 US casualties is way too much for any cause in the 21st century.

We can leave the rest of the world to hang. Who needs freedom? Dictators make far better business partners for exploitation of local human labor and obscene profits.

Slowly, we can turn Americans into the French who live out their lives grabbing as much as they can, seeking their own pleasure above all other things, before they must return, as they believe, to the soulless dust.

After yesterday's performance it's obvious we're already more than halfway there.

George Bush is not dumb, but he certainly is a fool.

He was naive/religious/sappy enough to believe that he could make a difference and Americanize the Middle East with it's first working constitutional democracy. He had no idea that the west, the east and human stupidity would all rise up together against him and sabotage his good intentions.
