"Realists" would have kept the Shah of Iran in power. "Realists" don't care what a dictator does if he isn't rubbing the rhubarb of the United States. "Realists" wouldn't give a rat's ass about the Sudan, or about Yugoslavia. Not our problem.
"Realists" were the people the Left was violently opposed to throughout the Cold War.
