There are various "celebrations", for lack of a better word. Some folks pay respects, the memorials get quite a bit of attention, relatively, but from a very small proportion of the population.
I ignore 'em. I have to admit to going to the local Vietnam Memorial wall once, when it was unlikely there would be passersby. As time passes one may get more involved.
But community is talked about in the US more than practiced. Which is THE spiritual vacuum we experience, and only enhanced by organized religions, who pit themselves against the ROW.
We are so concerned with "stuff", ownership, money, all of it the result of competition, which destroys spirituality. The "seven deadly sins" aren't deadly because they necessarily kill bodies but because they kill spirit.
And most of them are glorified in the advertising pressures on US citizens from Day One.
So, I don't think our Veteran's day is a biggie except for the people very directly involved.
