If you read the citations, they are devastating.
Imagine this - you have overwhelming military force, and the locals tell you what you want to hear. D'uh! When your back is turned they shoot at you. I noticed this guy thought it was progress to be travelling in a convoy of "only" 4 vehicles. And you can bet they were moving fast except in secured areas.
The reality is that when one is travelling with overwhelming military force one can get the impression of control of an area. 'Cause you do. And, if the population weren't supportive of the insurgency, it couldn't last one day. Control would be there without that temporary, moving overwhelming force. Control of this city will revert the instant the military leave. It's called "guerilla warfare". Guess where the hearts and minds of the locals are.
Ramadi is a large city, and it's been under the control of enemy forces for 2 years? And during those two years Bush & Co. were acting as if progress were being made?
Tell me. Under Saddam, was Ramadi an al-Qaeda stronghold? Under Bush it has become one. And there are those who say that Bush hasn't created more terrorists and havens for them where they didn't exist before.
Go figure.
