Many TV viewers were upset when the premiere of Battlestar Galactica
in 1978 was interrupted by news of the Mid-East peace accords being
signed by Carter, Sadat, and Begin.

One news wag noted that war in space was apparently much more
interesting than peace on Earth.

Wel, we don't have much peace in the Middle East, but we do still
have BG.

And then there was the 1978 interruption of the third episode of
ST:TNG for the rescue of that little girl who fell down a well.

And during Gemini 7, the mission splashdown was removed to a
corner of the TV screen so that a football game could be shown
uninterrupted.
