To assume there is any shred of intellectual honesty.

The True Believers are incensed at Bill Clinton lying about a blow job. So was I.

However, those same people are NOT incensed about George Bush lying to start a war. They will say he didn't lie, despite overwhelming evidence. More evidence than there was about Bill Clinton.

They will say that George Bush wasn't lying when he said the US doesn't torture. Or that Abu Ghraib was merely a PR problem. And that Iraq is not a disaster, and never has been. And that Afghanistan is democracy in action.

To expect True Believers to exhibit intellectual honesty in any form is to be disappointed and confused. They cannot admit they are wrong, even in the face of unrelenting information to the contrary.

To debate them is only for fun. They are predictable, unable to change, and unwilling to examine the prejudices and propaganda bred into them from childhood. Products of John Wayne, they believe, as Carl Jung pointed out, that the center of all iniquity is 5 miles behind enemy lines. We are all white, and they are all black.

Simple. For people too afraid to examine complicated issues. Hiding behind religion, they ignore Jesus' beliefs, relying on Falwell and Robertson instead.

Don't expect anything from them except the Party Line. The mask of reason they present is just that. Do expect them to check regularly with Rush, Hannity, Coulter, et al. for their talking points.

OH, YES. Do expect them to practice moral relativity. Torture performed my them on innocent people is OK, torture practice by others is barbaric. Murdering their innocent people is OK, murdering ours is not.
